Start with your exact Mount Elbrus itinerary
A checklist is useful only when it is attached to a route, season, accommodation plan and responsible guide. A south-side programme using established accommodation does not automatically need the same carrying and overnight equipment as a remote itinerary.
Mark every item as personal, rentable, shared, organiser-provided or unresolved. Resolve the last group in writing before travelling. This prevents duplicate luggage and avoids assuming that a guide supplies something that remains the participant’s responsibility.
Plan footwear and traction as one system
Mountaineering boots need the correct fit, suitable socks and compatibility with the selected crampons. Try both feet, check toe room and heel movement, then fit each crampon to its actual boot. Printed size alone cannot confirm this system.
If you are renting, send your size in advance but leave time for an in-person fitting and an alternative model. Read the Mount Elbrus boot fitting guide before collection.
Build clothing by function
Organise clothing into base layers, adjustable insulation, weather-protective shells and additional warmth for colder stages or stops. Test every layer together: the outer jacket should close over insulation, trousers must work with the planned boots, and hoods, cuffs and zips should remain usable with gloves.
Bring personal base layers and socks. Bulky insulation, shell clothing, gloves, mittens, gaiters and specialist footwear may be practical rental candidates. See the full Mount Одежда для Эльбруса guide.
Confirm who supplies every component
The guide may specify an ice axe, harness, helmet, carabiners or other technical equipment. Do not substitute similar-looking items or rent isolated components before the required configuration is clear.
Programme accommodation also determines whether a sleeping bag, mat, tent or larger backpack is needed. Choose pack volume after the carried load is known, and ask exactly what is already available at the accommodation.
Turn one long checklist into three short lists
Before departure, create “bring,” “rent” and “provided by organiser” lists. Put uncertain items into a fourth group and resolve them with the guide. At rental collection, inspect zips, straps, buckles, closures and adjustment ranges, and assemble items with several parts.
The downloadable checklist uses the same live equipment and prices as the calculator. The final list still depends on the guide, route, season, forecast and programme.
